B2 Spanish opens up the full subjunctive system (imperfect subjunctive: viniera, fuera, hubiera; past subjunctive forms) and the conditional (haría, vendría). Vocabulary expands to around 4,000 words for abstract topics: politics, science, ethics, economics. You learn to distinguish near-synonyms: proponer vs sugerir, declarar vs afirmar, lograr vs conseguir.
If you can follow a Spanish-language film without subtitles, read a non-fiction book without a dictionary, and argue your point in a meeting, you're around B2. Most learners reach B2 after 2–3 years. DELE B2 is the minimum for many universities and a common requirement for jobs in Spanish-speaking countries.
At B2 the imperfect subjunctive (si tuviera, ojalá viniera) is the main grammatical leap, but vocabulary is what separates fluent-feeling B2 from awkward-feeling B2. Read newspapers (El País, La Nación); even 10 minutes a day adds up. Use spaced repetition for synonym distinctions and for register markers (formal sería vs neutral es vs informal está siendo).
