About Goethe C2

Goethe-Zertifikat C2, the Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom, is the highest certificate of the Goethe-Institut and certifies command comparable to an educated native speaker: nuance, irony, literary register, and idiomatic control across genres. There is no level above it in the framework.

Who this list is for

Goethe-Zertifikat C2 is accepted as proof of the German needed for admission to German universities and is also pursued for teaching credentials and for mastery. Candidates who sit it usually want the certificate for its own sake rather than because a form demands it.

How to study

At C2 the task is refinement rather than coverage. Read across genres you normally avoid, including legal and scientific German, and keep rare idioms and literary vocabulary in spaced repetition since those are precisely what an advanced user lets lapse. Have writing critiqued for register and connotation rather than for correctness; what remains at this level is judgement, and it is invisible from the inside.

Where do the words after this list come from?

A list has an end. The words you keep for good usually turn up somewhere else — in a page you read, a show you watched, or a conversation you had — one at a time, and rarely at the level you planned for.

MindDory connects to Claude, Cursor, and other assistants that speak the Model Context Protocol, so a word you meet while you are chatting is saved to your deck as a flashcard without you leaving the conversation. There is no copy and paste, no CSV export, and no browser extension.
