French clothes and fashion vocabulary

The French words for clothes, shoes, accessories and fabrics, each with its CEFR level.

For anyone shopping for clothes in French or describing what someone is wearing.

About clothes vocabulary

Clothes words are mostly A2 in French: jupe, veste and écharpe. The basics (robe, chemise, chaussure) are A1. Shop words such as pointure and bijou are B1, and soie is C1.

Who this list is for

Beginners and lower intermediate learners, and anyone who wants to ask for a different size in a French shop.

How to study

Describe what you are wearing today, with colours, since French adjectives agree with the noun: une chemise blanche, un pull bleu. Learn pointure (shoe size) and taille (clothes size) as a pair, because they are easy to mix up.

Where do the words after this list come from?

A list has an end. The words you keep for good usually turn up somewhere else — in a page you read, a show you watched, or a conversation you had — one at a time, and rarely at the level you planned for.

MindDory connects to Claude, Cursor, and other assistants that speak the Model Context Protocol, so a word you meet while you are chatting is saved to your deck as a flashcard without you leaving the conversation. There is no copy and paste, no CSV export, and no browser extension.
