The MindDory keyboard replaces the keyboard on your iPhone or Android phone and checks what you write in any app: messages, email, forms. One tap checks the grammar and explains each mistake, another shows how a native speaker would say it, and a third translates. It works in nine languages, and your text only changes when you choose a fix.
It types like a normal keyboard, with spelling suggestions as you go. Above the keys sits a bar with three buttons, and each one works on the text in the field you are typing in.
The MindDory button checks the grammar. Every mistake comes with a short explanation and the corrected version next to what you wrote. Say it fluently rewrites the text the way someone who grew up with the language would put it, and shows you a preview first. Translate turns what you wrote from your own language into the one you are learning; hold it to pick both languages.
No. Nothing is replaced until you tap the fix or the rewrite you want. The keyboard does not autocorrect a sentence behind your back, so a message never goes out saying something you did not write.
That is a deliberate choice for people who are learning. A correction you never saw teaches you nothing, and a correction you saw and chose sticks.
Nine: English, Czech, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch and Polish. It comes with twelve key layouts, including QWERTZ and AZERTY, so the letters sit where you expect them.
Translate covers more than that: 37 languages, picked for the pairs people actually learn.
Ordinary typing stays on your phone. Text is sent for checking only when you tap one of the three buttons, and MindDory does not save it; the one exception is a fix you report as wrong, which is kept so we can look at it. The keyboard never reads password or payment fields.
On iPhone the checks need Full Access, which iOS asks for when you add any keyboard that goes online. Without it you can still type with spelling suggestions. On Android, checking is off until you switch it on in the MindDory app, and until then the keyboard never goes online.
If you turn on Learn from my writing, the mistakes you make are kept in the Grammar tab of the app, grouped by topic and level, so you can see which piece of grammar keeps catching you. It is off by default.
